July 11, 2026 How do you create joy in the face of grief? BY SAM JACOBS Editor in Chief, TIME Earlier this spring, TIME’s Veronique Greenwood and Joey Lautrup traveled to North Carolina to meet Daniel Coleman and his collaborators in the kid’s entertainment group Danny Go!. The group has become very popular on YouTube, where the show sees hundreds of millions of views on some episodes. This attention has led to a live tour, a new line of toys, and a deal with Netflix that was announced in March. But while Coleman and his wife Mindy have been entertaining millions of children around the world, their son Isaac battled Fanconi anemia, a rare genetic disorder in which the body’s ability to repair damaged DNA is destroyed. Many people with the disorder eventually develop cancer, but Isaac’s struck particularly early and hard. Three weeks after TIME’s visit, Isaac passed away. We published Greenwood’s profile of Coleman in May and released a related short film by Lautrup last week. Few stories this year have affected readers as much as this one.
