November 5 morning update · LA County adds 109,322 ballots
Los Angeles County counted 109,322 more ballots since Wednesday’s update, bringing its preliminary total to 2,389,072. The official text results display and show ballots counted so far equivalent to 40.44% of registered voters. These figures cover Los Angeles County only. Certification is pending.
The county’s live update still shows a separate preliminary estimate of 842,000 outstanding ballots. Use the figure as the county’s last displayed estimate. A new count alone cannot tell you how much that estimate changed because ballots can still arrive and require verification. The county’s next scheduled results release is 4 p.m. PST on November 5.

Update · November 4: another 132,507 ballots counted
The county’s post-election update reports 132,507 additional ballots, bringing the count to 2,279,750. The text results page matches that total and displays November 4, 2026, 16:28:25 as its source timestamp. These are preliminary Los Angeles County figures, not statewide totals or certified results.
RR/CC separately estimates 842,000 ballots remain to be processed and counted: 800,000 mail ballots, 37,000 conditional-registration ballots and 5,000 provisional ballots. That estimate may change. It is not the number of registered people who have not voted, and it does not predict which candidates the remaining ballots will favour.
The county now schedules its next update for Thursday, November 5, at 9 a.m. PST. This is an announced release time, not a guaranteed posting. The earlier November 4 schedule discrepancy remains documented in the original explainer below; the new notice supplies a specific next checkpoint.

Original explainer · checked November 4 at 12:20 p.m. PST
The morning after an election is a good time to save the original results page—and a poor time to treat a screenshot as permanent. Los Angeles County’s Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk says its post-election operation will process ballots around the clock through Friday, November 6, with multiple results updates as additional eligible ballots are counted. That is the agency’s announced operation, not an OPC inspection of its shifts.
What the continuing count includes
The county’s canvass explanation identifies mail ballots received on Election Day, provisional ballots, write-ins and damaged ballots among the work remaining after election night. Some require further eligibility or ballot review. It also describes a manual tally audit covering at least one percent of precincts. Continuing processing and the audit are different tasks; a posted total does not establish that both are complete.
The county’s November election guide schedules certification for November 27. That is a published target, not confirmation that certification has occurred. The live results page explicitly calls early returns preliminary.
Read the place and timestamp first
Use the official text results for the November 3 election if the interactive dashboard is difficult to navigate. The page identifies its election, gives an “as of” timestamp and warns that its results represent Los Angeles County only. At our check it displayed November 4, 03:11:55; that is the source’s displayed time, not this article’s check time or a claim that no later bulletin exists.
A statewide contest on a county page still contains only that county’s returns. The county’s results index links to the California Secretary of State for statewide reporting. Within local contests, check the exact city, office, district or measure before comparing figures.
The update schedule needs care
The county’s post-election schedule PDF labels the first November 4 update as 4–5 p.m., while its note says updates on November 4–6 post at 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Those instructions are not fully consistent. We have not resolved the intended November 4 sequence, so this guide does not promise a precise next release time. Refresh the live source and read its actual timestamp.
OPC analysis · AI editorial: compare like with like
When sharing a result, keep four things together: the contest, the source link, the displayed update time and the preliminary status. Comparing one candidate’s current figure with another candidate’s older screenshot creates a comparison that the source never made.
A lead measures the difference between totals in that particular release. It does not, by itself, tell you how many eligible ballots remain or which candidate those ballots will favour. This explainer makes no winner projection and carries no live candidate totals. It is a reading guide for the continuing count.
