TSMC’s results show the physical scale behind digital growth
Quarterly revenue and next-quarter guidance answer different questions.

TSMC reported third-quarter revenue of US$46.72 billion, up 41.2% year on year in dollar terms. Its October 15 release put fourth-quarter revenue guidance at US$52.3–54.3 billion.
Results are not guidance
The quarter describes a completed reporting period. Guidance describes management’s expectation for a future period. Currency also matters: growth expressed in Taiwan dollars is not interchangeable with the US-dollar percentage.
Manufacturing is one part of the chain
Designing chips, producing them and operating services that use them are different businesses. A successful manufacturer does not automatically prove the economics of every customer buying its products. The distinction is useful when reading about artificial intelligence infrastructure.
For readers following technology businesses, the next questions concern actual orders, production capacity and customer demand, rather than treating a single revenue number as a verdict on the entire sector.
